Pancreatic cancer is a silent killer. It’s symptoms are similar to many other minor illnesses and in the busy lives we lead, quite easy to miss or ignore. There is no early screening available and in the vast majority of cases, sufferers are already very ill before it’s diagnosed. Today, Pancreatic cancer is the 8th most common cancer, it’s no longer a rare cancer. It has less than a 10% survival rate post 5 years, in fact two thirds of patients die within 1 year of diagnosis. This hasn’t changed in 40 years. What has changed is the numbers of cases being diagnosed and the age profile is coming down, no longer an older persons disease. In 2019, just over 3000 Australians died of this disease. It affects men and women equally. It’s a real shocker.
