About Pancare Foundation

Pancreatic cancer has the lowest survival rate out of all the major cancers. This must change.

Pancare Foundation is Australia’s only charity dedicated to pancreatic and other upper gastrointestinal cancers.

Founded by prominent surgeon, Dr Mehrdad Nikfarjam, Pancare provides patient support services, education and funds research into new cancer treatments to help improve the outcomes for those affected by the disease.

Our services for patients and their families include:

  • one-to-one support and support groups
  • education literature on pancreatic cancer
  • financial assistance to help with travel and accommodation, for medical treatments, access to complementary therapies or to meet other day-to-day needs
  • specialist Pancreatic Cancer Nurse services

We also:

  • fund research into new treatments and support good clinical trials
  • fund our national early detection program for people at high risk of developing pancreatic cancer
  • fund scholarship for PhD research for pancreatic cancer

Often known as the silent killer, pancreatic cancer is often undiagnosed until it’s too late. Common symptoms of pancreatic cancer include:

  • abdominal or mid-back pain
  • unexplained weight loss
  • jaundice
  • loss of appetite
  • indigestion
  • changes in stools
  • new-onset diabetes.

The best chance for survival is to know the symptoms and act on them by speaking to your health care provider.
