For Belinda and her family, Walk for Hope provides the perfect opportunity to continue making treasured memories with her partner Goran.

My partner Goran was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2016 after experiencing back pain and bloating along with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. Our life changed dramatically – Goran had Whipple surgery two weeks later followed by six months of chemotherapy and follow up treatment of radiotherapy.

After three years of bravely tackling the disease head on, Goran recently received the unfortunate news that the cancer has spread to other organs. Despite this, we’re so thankful of the time we’ve had together and the memories we’ve made. We’ve travelled Europe together and have been on lovely road trips enjoying each other’s company.

We’ll be proudly walking at the Gold Coast Walk for Hope in recognition of the bravery Goran has shown during his treatment for pancreatic cancer. Goran will be cheering us on from the sidelines as my daughter Melissa, her partner Tommy and our wonderful friend Annie take up the challenge. We’ve been overwhelmed by the generous donations of family and friends and we hope to raise even more money. Pancare Foundation has been a valuable source of information for us during Goran’s journey and we’re proud that we can show our support in this practical way.

Up until Goran’s diagnosis, my knowledge of pancreatic cancer was minimal. Our greatest hope is that there is greater education and awareness about pancreatic cancer through media outlets and other platforms so people are informed and know the signs and symptoms to be aware of. There needs to be a coordinated approach between government and public funding for research to dramatically improve the survival rate.
